Employers must manage health and safety risks for workers driving or riding vehicles as part of their work, with road activities covered by the same laws as fixed workplaces. This applies to company and grey fleet vehicles, including those under cash allowance schemes. Normal commuting is excluded, except journeys from home to non-standard work locations, which are considered work-related travel.
Synopsis
Estimates suggest that 25-30% of road fatalities were in accidents involving somebody at work. Of all work-related deaths, about 75% occur on the road.
