Rachel Maclean has been sacked as Housing Minister after nine months in post, as part of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s cabinet reshuffle. Former Building Safety Minister, Lee Rowley will be her replacement.

The removal of Maclean today makes her the 14th housing minister to be removed in the past decade after she took over the role from Lucy Frazer earlier this year. More announcements are expected as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak repositions his top team, following the sacking of Home Secretary Suella Braverman this morning.

In her statement on X, Rachel Maclean said: "I've been asked to step down as housing minister. Disappointed and was looking forward to introducing the Renters Reform Bill to committee and later the Leasehold and Freehold Bill. It has been a privilege to hold the position and I wish my successor well."

Lee Rowley, who was appointed Building Safety Minister in September 2022, remains within DLUHC, and will become the 16th Minister for Housing since 2010.
