This six hour interactive training course is run by one of the industries most respected professional. Designed for those new to lettings and management within the Build to Rent sector. The course will provide an overview of the legal framework whilst walking them through the life cycle of a tenancy.

Karen Williamson is a Senior Advisor with deep expertise across agency, client-side, and the UK living sector. She launched her own residential consultancy in 2017, advising clients including Get Living London, Tipi, Cortland, IRPM, Lyvly, and RICS. Previously Associate Director at Get Living, Karen’s key achievements included saving £1m+ through licensing exemptions, developing board-level protocols, co-authoring operational standards, and serving as Trustee of the £1m East Village Trust. Karen also held senior roles at Grosvenor, managing a mixed-use portfolio in Mayfair with annual rental income of c.£40m. She previously served on the UKAA Education & Research Committee, The Dispute Service forum, and contributed to the Government’s PRS Affordability and Security Working Group. Karen is an Associate RICS, a Fellow of ARLA, and delivers accredited CPD training across the sector.

What You'll Learn

Part 1 – Introduction: How does the Build to Rent sector differ from the Private Rented Sector and who are the main stakeholders.

Part 2 – Definition Of A Contract: Understanding the differences between contracts and agreements.

Part 3 – Types Of Contracts Used And Why: What are the different types of Tenancy Agreements that are used in the industry and understanding the other types of legal contracts that may be required. 

Part 4 –  What Do Tenancy Agreements Say And Mean: Understanding what the legal jargon means in everyday terms and what responsibilities and obligations are placed on landlords and tenants.

Part 5 - Associated Paperwork: Understanding all the other legal documents that have to be in place so as not to compromise the landlords position.

Part 6 – Moving In: Knowing the steps to take to ensure that the new tenant has a smooth move-in and the landlord has fulfilled all their obligations.

Part 7 – In-Tenancy Management: Dealing with the day-to-day issues which can arise during the course of a tenancy.

Part 8 – Moving Out: Knowing when I tenant can legally release themselves from the obligations of a tenancy, and how to ensure that the move out is as stress free as possible.

Who Should Attend?

This course is perfect for anyone thinking of joining the Build to Rent sector who is responsible for the day-to-day management of units within a Build to Rent development, or anyone with less than six month’s experience.

Online: Two half-day sessions (3 hours each)

On Person: One 6 hour session with a break for lunch
